I found a 1999 Kubota 4310 HST with loader in with approximately 800 hours. I want to use the tractor for mowing pasture as needed, finish mowing up to 10 acres and lots of loader work around a lake. Is the size of this tractor a good fit for my use (I want to have plenty of power). The dealer is asking $17,500. Seems a little high, but I don't buy tractors everyday. Thanks in advance.

36 PTO HP should be plenty to run a 6' rotary cutter or rear finish mower. If the loader is comparable to current models it should be good for about 3/4 ton and maybe about 1/2 yard. I can't advise on price but my initial impression is the same as yours. ....

About the best you could do on this package in this size range with a new modern unit would be 21K. With the deals on interest from the companies you might want to look new. An extra 100 dollars a month for 3 years gives you a 3 year waranty and zero hours on the meter. ....

That could also be a bargaining point on the asking price of a used unit. Incentives on new units attract buyers that would otherwise be interested in a used machine, reducing demand in the used market and concequently lowering sale prices. ....

I have the exact same tractor and that is a fair price - mine is a 2001 and has 600 hrs I am fixing to trade up, they offered 14,500-15,000 on a trade and they said they would sell it for 17,500 to 18,000. ....

jarndt, in theory that is true, but the reality of it is, the used units sell every bit as well as the new ones.
We buy & sell many units a year, there is a waiting list for our 'used' units and always has been.
We have begun to replace them after one full years service, at that point they have 1,500 & 2,000 hours on them. The depreciation is minimal compared to the old theory of 'running them into the ground' since we put a relatively high amount of hours on a year.
Best of luck. ....
